FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Sandwich MA – February 20, 2017:

A 24 year old male from Dighton, MA is facing charges after a vehicle pursuit originating in the town of Sandwich.

On February 20, 2017, the Sandwich Police received a 911 call of a vehicle being operated erratically which had just entered into the Shell Gas station on Route 130 in Forestdale. A Sandwich police cruiser was dispatched.

When the Sandwich Police Cruiser located the suspect vehicle, it fled north from the gas station on Route 130. In the act of fleeing, the vehicle made contact with front bumper of the Sandwich Police cruiser.

Secondary Sandwich Police units located the vehicle traveling north on Route 130 at a very high rate of speed. The suspect was passing vehicles and driving on the wrong side of the road. Sandwich Police officers had to avoid being hit. The suspect vehicle then entered Route 6 east bound and contact was lost.

Sandwich Police re-located the vehicle on Service Road in the area of Chase Rd. The suspect drove his vehicle directly at two Sandwich Police cruisers in the wrong lane causing them to leave the roadway to keep from being hit.

The suspect vehicle then got on Route 6 west bound. The Massachusetts State Police was advised and a short time later the vehicle was observed again by Sandwich Police near exit three west bound. Another Sandwich Police cruiser was run off the road by the suspect vehicle. All information was given to the State Police who located the suspect and continued the pursuit off Cape.

Sandwich Police learned that after a lengthy pursuit by other police agencies the suspect vehicle, being operated by Cary Guy Jr., age 24, of Dighton, MA, was eventually stopped where he was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police. Guy faces numerous charges including Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, Failing to Stop for a Police Officer, and Operating to Endanger.

Three Sandwich Police cruisers were damaged and one officer was transported to CCH with a minor injury.
